Digital Signage Advertising is one of the fastest growing sectors of the retail industry. With so many different pieces of information available to present, it is only natural that business choose to present relevant customer information on LCD and HD screens that can be updated from the office down the hall or a headquarters building thousands of miles away. 
 

Why go digital with signs? A restaurant owner will tell you that menu items can be updated on the basis of availability, prices can be changed based on market costs, and animated graphics catch the eye better than still pictures. When transitioning from breakfast to lunch, there is no need to switch out menu boards. A hotel owner will tell you how much easier it is to direct guests to ballrooms, convention goers to special check-in areas, and tour groups to the appropriate bus. Digital signage is expected by all levels of the traveling public, given the popularity of flat screens and monitors. Even a medium sized company can effectively use electronic message boards in breakrooms or near timeclocks to relay relevant or urgent information instantaneously. Studies show that visual presentations are better retained by all groups of employees, despite language and other barriers. 
 

What about those big trucks? Good question. After all, it’s just a big TV set, a generator, and a computer with a better video card and rugged construction. The driver only needs to concentrate on the road, because everything on the screens has been programmed in advance. Like most programming available for electronic LED displays, the software is very easy to use and comes with multiple templates and color schemes. Imagine showing your message to everyone downtown, or coming out of the big game, but without having to rent a billboard. The possibilities are endless, and the results can be measured in dollars. If you don’t like something about the message, you can change it and try again without re-printing a billboard. 
 

How do I convert to digital? In most cases you in-house AV department (or tech savvy nephew/niece) can set up the hardware with no trouble. Monitors can be purchased just about anywhere, and at competitive prices. Software is available from many vendors, and 3M digital sign software is known in the industry as a popular choice. Many dynamic digital signage solutions are available, some of which will sell the hardware, software, and even service depending on whether you are a restaurant franchise, hotel, or big business.

Your application may require a little research before the right electronic system presents itself. Don't be afraid to ask questions about what you can and can't do with a system. For example, can you orient the screens vertically, and can you set up a video wall or multi-screen system? Many times you can sketch out what you are looking for and a vendor can suggest the right software and hardware package.
